Gorgon
Gorgons are powerful, solitary monsters who live in the deeper levels of the dungeon. Only rarely are gorgons found on higher levels due to the low mana content in the air.
Claws, fangs, and serpentine lower body are their favored weapons if one can get past their primary defense. If someone can see a gorgon's eyes, they will turn to stone. Since gorgons cannot eat stone, they often hunt for prey while wearing a veil. Gorgons love fish, but they'll eat any creature that can fit down their throat once they unhinge their jaw.
Due to their size and the inherent danger of petrification, gorgons are not domesticated.
Anatomy
Gorgons have long serpentine bodies topped with humanoid torsos and heads topped with snakes instead of hair. They lack nipples and breasts, but their humanoid chests and bellies are noticeably soft. Their cloaca are near the ends of their tails, as they would be in a traditional snake.

Reproduction
This long-lived and female-only monster species is solitary in nature and prefers to have a large territory in the levels below ten to support their needs for both mana and hunting. A Gorgon will go into heat in twenty year cycles. During her heat, she may venture to the higher levels of the dungeon to find a human male: their preferred breeding partner. A Gorgon who cannot find a human will occasionally seek another snake-kin for the task of mating.
After a gorgon has mated, she will lay 1-3 eggs in a nursery decorated with petrified trophies. She will then guard the eggs until they hatch. From that point, the mother will remain with her offspring to teach them how to survive while providing food and protecting them from harm. The young will spend a minimum of ten years with their mother before they leave. It is unknown if the departure of the offspring is prompted by said offspring or by the parent.
It is not known when a gorgon stops growing, but the largest recorded was estimated to be one hundred fifty feet in length.
Resources
A gorgon's shed skin is a valuable material, though its actual scales have more durability, strength, and value. Similarly, its bones can be used for making tools and gear. Flesh from the snakes on a gorgon's head and its tail are high quality culinary ingredients.
Despite these useful items, most who seek a gorgon will attempt to get one or both eyes. Once separated from the gorgon, its eyes no longer have the full petrification effect, but instead cause temporary paralysis. By using a specific combination of alchemy and magic before the gorgon is killed, one can keep this effect and stabilize the eye, thus preventing it from rotting. Due to the cruel nature of this process, the guild has forbidden Gorgoneye production.
